Overcoming Major Setbacks

Breakdowns can create breakthroughs. Things fall apart so things can fall together. One thing I have learned, having come through many setbacks myself, is if you do not move forward after a setback you will always be "set back." You will never be who God intended you to be. Another thing that I have learned is you must accept the reality of your setback. Whether it is a relationship that has failed, a financial setback or a health challenge, acceptance is necessary in order to properly deal with it.

Living in denial will only intensify your pain and cause your healing to be delayed. You can come back after a setback if you confront it, thereby bringing resolution and resolve.

Here are five “A-s” that can keep you moving ahead and help you overcome any setbacks in your life:

Acknowledge:
Acknowledging that something has gone terribly wrong and realizing that you need to make mid-course corrections is one of the hardest things to do, especially after a major setback. However, if you don’t make changes it could cause what is bad to become even worse or irreparable.

Align:
When we go through tough times it is imperative that we have the right people in our circles of influence. Align yourself with people who will encourage and inspire you out of your dark place.

Accentuate:
Accentuate the positives and minimize the negatives in your life.

Articulate:
Articulate your vision. Say it out loud. Speak positive and good things about yourself. Open your mouth and proclaim your vision.

Accelerate:
Get out of the setback as soon as you can. Do not stay there and wallow in it. Shake the dust off of your feet and keep it moving. Be they ever so small, even baby steps are important. Just keep moving ahead.
